In its inaugural Math League season, the 17-member Henning team fell just one question short of qualifying for the MN Math League State Tournament. Thirteen students contributed to the selected eight-member roster throughout the season, an impressive feat for such a young team!
Henning finished ahead of the state-bound Pelican Rapids team in both division and section standings. However, state qualification is determined by a power-ranking system similar to QRF in sports. Henning placed third out of seven teams in the division behind Fergus Falls and Alexandria, and first out of five teams in the section. Pelican Rapids secured the state spot by earning additional ranking points after winning three of five meets, while Henning won two.
Entering the final meet, both teams knew the outcome could hinge on multiple factors. Ultimately, the rankings favored Pelican Rapids. Individually, Elliot Severson led Henning, narrowly edging Brayden Anderson by 1.1 points. They placed 13th and 15th out of 70 competitors. Other top finishes included Easton Misegades (21st), Kale Misegades (22nd), Ryan Despard (25th), and Jaxon Pederson (27th).
Congratulations to the Henning Math Team on a fantastic season!

On Friday, our 4th and 8th graders participated in Part Two of the “Walk in Their Shoes” experience, focusing on empathy, understanding, and inclusion. Through engaging, hands-on simulations, students gained insight into what learning may feel like for individuals with a range of visible and invisible exceptionalities.
Thank you to our presenters and facilitators for creating such a meaningful experience. Activities like these help build awareness, compassion, and respect — reminding us that everyone’s experiences are unique, and everyone belongs!
