To assist with managing our 50% bus capacity rule - Effective Monday, October 5 the Henning School will not allow students to ride on a school bus that they are not scheduled on as part of the normal route. The exception to the rule is for students in fourth grade or below that require a route change due to child care related issues. We will not be able to assist with transporting students for birthday parties, sleep overs, etc. during this time. Also, we ask that any of these child care transportation requests be communicated with the school before 1:30.

With all the COVID-19 uncertainty, the traditional Prairie Fire Children's Theatre event will not occur this year. However, Prairie Fire staff and the Henning Community Education Board have worked together to offer a unique set of four short theatrical workshops for children (one of only two locations). They are excited to offer a creative opportunity for kids to enjoy time together. On Tuesday August 18, there will be four, 45-minute theatrical workshops, each designed for specific age groups. Henning Community Education funded a sizable portion of the expense, so families only need to pay $5 per child per workshop, with a maximum charge of $10 per child and $20 per family. Registration forms and fee collection will be at the Henning School District Office, and are available whenever the school building is open for business. The classes will be held in the Henning School cafeteria. Children do not need to bring anything to the workshops, but they should wear comfortable clothes for movement and they are asked to wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or crocs) for safety. At a minimum, temperatures and simple health questions will be asked prior to entry of participants or visitors. If/as COVID-related protocols change prior to the workshops, the Henning School Board will determine any modifications needed for the health and safety of everyone involved. Henning Community Education encourages children to participate, even if they are not currently Henning students: homeschoolers, cousins, grandkids, etc. are all welcome to register. Registration must be completed by Wednesday August 12, with a minimum of five children and a maximum of 25 participants registered per workshop. Classes are: 9:00 to 9:45 am ... Creative Dramatics - ages 5 to 7 years old. 10:00 to 10:45 am ... Acting - ages 8 to 11 years old. 11:00 to 11:45 am ... Silent Acting - ages 10 to 13 years old. 12:00 to 12:45 pm ... Acting - ages 12 to 15 years old. Because 45-minutes will go by quickly, the workshops will begin and end on time. If a child is close to a different age group and the family would like to place them with a friend/relative in another class, that should be workable if their are slots available and it is recognized that the workshop will be geared for the planned age level. Prairie Fire and Henning Community Education have already planned a full, regular production for Summer 2021 with 'Sleeping Beauty' August 15-21, 2021. The decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Prom that was scheduled for June 27 at Thumper Pond. The decision took into account: - Maintaining consistency with school expectations regarding social distancing, group size meetings and overall healthy practices to protect our students and staff. - Limitations that Thumper Pond has regarding the number of patrons allowed in the areas used for Prom & Post Prom. - Student survey data regarding not wanting to reschedule (again) after June 27. We understand this decision will be upsetting to some of our students and families. Please know that we made this decision in the overall best interest of our student and staff at this time.
