Jacob Volkmann Hall of Fame

Henning’s own Jacob Volkmann is being inducted into the David Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 17 in Benson! Volkmann stands as the most decorated wrestler in the history of the OTC program. A three-time state champion and 1999 Mr. Minnesota Wrestler, he qualified for state four times and compiled an impressive high school record of 162-18. After graduating from Henning High School in 1999, he went on to compete for the University of Minnesota, where he earned NCAA All-American honors three times, captured a Big Ten title, and played a pivotal role in the Gophers’ 2001 and 2002 National Championship teams. He wrapped up his collegiate career with a 127-36 record and later claimed the FILA World Title in 2008. Following his wrestling career, Volkmann transitioned to MMA and competed in the UFC, finishing with a 19-7 professional record. Former head wrestling coach and current Henning teacher Scott Hart reflected on Volkmann’s legacy, saying “He had the most positive attitude.” A big thank you to Chad Koenen, publisher of the Henning Citizen’s Advocate, for sharing Jacob’s incredible story and accomplishments in his recent article. Let’s celebrate the journey and success of an exceptional athlete and alum—congratulations, Jacob!
