Fourth grade students pose with the fleece hats they created.

Henning third and fourth graders recently teamed up with members of the 4-H Club to create fleece hats while learning about the importance of recycling. The event, held last week, was led by Donna Geiser of the 4-H Club, who shared valuable insights on how small efforts to recycle can have a big impact on our planet. The fleece used for the hats came from recycled materials sourced from local recycling centers, giving students a hands-on lesson in sustainability. As part of the activity, students solved math problems to understand how contributions from individuals to collectively make a significant difference in recycling efforts. The children expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to craft the hats and see firsthand how recycling benefits the environment. Special thanks to Donna Geiser for organizing the event and to master sewers Gail Guse and Mary Ann Wilke for guiding the students through the sewing process. This initiative not only provided a fun, creative outlet for the students, but also instilled valuable lessons on environmental stewardship that they can carry forward.
