PRESCHOOL & ECFE

Welcome to Early Childhood Family Education  where the philosophy is: "Parents are a child's first and most important teachers!"  We recognize that parents know their child(ren)  best.  It is our job is to support families, parents, and caregivers as they help grow little learners!  ECFE staff provide child activities, parent-child activities, and parent information in a classroom setting where all are welcome! We are  also looking for parents who would like to be a part of our parent advisory council.  We appreciate input from families regarding early childhood programming at the Henning School.  Please call Laura Smith at 218-583-2927 for more information about any of these programs.  We look forward to working with you and your family!

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)

ECFE has begun! We will be exploring art, literacy, science, (and more) as we learn through creating, listening, moving, and doing! We are looking forward to being able to have some great discussions in parent education time as well. There will be many opportunities for discussing parenting techniques and child needs.

This year, ECFE will meet in rooms 101 and 102. Teachers will be Andria Weller and Laura Smith. Please sign up by calling Debbie at the school at 218-583-2927. Classes will meet on Mondays with morning or evening classes from which to choose. When you come to the school for ECFE classes, please enter/exit by the elementary door. Please ring the buzzer on the left side of the elementary doors if no one is at the door when you get to the building, and a staff member will let you in.

ECFE will be held Mondays beginning September 19, 2022.

Monday morning classes will run from 8:30-10:00 a.m.

Monday evening classes will run from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

ECFE is for everyone! Please join us! There is no charge!

School Readiness Preschool

If you have a child who is three, four, or five years (and hasn’t begun kindergarten) by September 1, 2022, then we have a preschool program for your child! Preschool focuses on “whole child” development (physical, cognitive, language, and social/emotional areas), and aims to support children as they learn essential skills for later learning.

Call Kayla Hoelscher at 218-583-2927 for an information packet to sign up for preschool. We have full day fours classes that meet Tuesdays-Fridays. Threes meet for a full day session on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Preschool follows the public school calendar. All preschool is free with the completion of some paperwork requirements.

Advisory Council

Let Laura Smith (218-583-2927) know if you’re interested in serving on our Early Childhood Family Education/School Readiness Advisory Council. This is a group that provides input into our early childhood programs and supports/advocates for our youngest citizens and their families! We meet approximately three times/year.

Early Childhood Screening

Henning early childhood staff will be conducting developmental screenings. This screening gives a brief look into a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and can help us provide referrals for extra educational (or other) support if needed. A screening is required by the Minnesota Department of Education when a child participates in school preschool, but families are allowed to conscientiously object. We will be working in order of birthdate and will be contacting you/sending screening materials to you as your child meets the age requirement. If you have any questions, please call MaryLynn Borchardt @ 218-583-2927.

Suggestions?

If you have suggestions for how we can improve our ECFE or Preschool programs or field trip ideas, please let Laura Smith know by emailing her at lsmith@henning.k12.mn.us or calling 218-583-2927. We appreciate hearing from you!
