Mrs. Smith

Welcome to the Early Childhood program. My name is Laura Smith and I have worked with the early childhood program for 30 years. My husband, Grant and I enjoy living in Henning. Before settling in Henning, we lived in Korea, Arizona, and Illinois. We have a large family-four sons and three daughters. Our three oldest boys are married. Outside of school I enjoy reading, music, walking, sewing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

I teach parent education with the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program, teach three-year-olds, and work with the Title 1 program. I enjoy working in early education, reading, and  working with parents and children. Brain research shows that much development occurs in the early years and sets a foundation for all later learning.  We know how important the early years are!!

Over the course of my teaching years, I have taught ECFE, preschool, kindergarten, first, second, and third grades,  reading intervention, Adult Basic Education (ABE), and in the  General Education Diploma (GED) program.  I  started out with an elementary education degree from Bethel University and then added kindergarten, early childhood, and  parent education certifications from Crown College.  In 2020, I completed an M.A. in education with concentrations in early childhood and K-12 reading  from Concordia University, St. Paul.

I am excited to work with your family this year!
