Welcome to the Early Childhood program. My name is Laura Smith and I have worked with the early childhood program for 26 years. My husband's name is Grant and we enjoy living in Henning. Before settling in Henning, we lived in Korea, Arizona, and Illinois. We have a large family-four grown sons and three daughters who are still in school. Our three oldest boys are married. Outside of school I enjoy reading, music, walking, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.
I teach parent education with the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program, teach one group of three-year-olds, and worki with the Title 1 program. I am passionate about early education/reading and enjoy working wtih parents and children. Brain research shows that much development occurs in the early years and sets a foundation for all later learning- so we know how important the early years are.
Over the course of my teaching years, I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grades as well as reading intervention. I started out with an elementary education degree from Bethel University and then added kindergarten, early childhood, parent education, and reading certifications.
I am excited to work wtih your family this year!
